New Blog

Hello.  It’s been way to long!  But, I have been working on trying to find a blog that better suits me.  I’d love to be able to start posting recipes too! So, stay tuned.  I hope to be posting some stories soon.  It’s already been a busy season with planing flowers, gardening, cooking for clients and myself!  I will have an article coming up soon for Applaud on local farmers markets and csa’s.  Keep your eyes open for it.  It’s all a work in progress.

Vegas Baby!

Let’s talk food.  Recently my husband and I took a “culinary” trip to Vegas.  We went there to eat, mainly.   We were not disappointed.  The food was phenomenal!  We ate so many delicious things.  We now have some new favorite restaurants and we tried things we had never eaten before.

Our eating adventure began at Craftsteak owned by Tom Colicchio, where we had the best dining experience ever!  We had our very own private booth and decided on the “tasting menu”.  We dined on fresh heirloom tomato salad, succulent grilled Prawns, buffalo mozzarella with toasted hazelnuts and roasted red peppers, lobster bisque and that was just to start! Each item was described to us in great detail by our waiters. The food was fresh, seasonal and presented perfectly.  Next up were our entrees which were, Waygu Beef tenderloin and ribeye seasoned with just the right amount of salt and pepper.  We had creamy scalloped potatoes, roasted corn and scallions, braised Maui onions and fresh hot rolls.  Ok, ok.  How can two people eat that much food?!  Not easily, but we did our best!  When food is as good as that, it’s hard not to keep eating and eating.  By the time dessert came I didn’t think I could stuff one more crumb into my stomach.  When I saw the desserts however I happily changed my mind. Placed in front of me was some piping hot, gooey monkey bread with banana ice-cream .  They also brought out vanilla bean crème Brule with blueberries, homemade melon sorbets, and fresh fruits!  I think it’s safe to say that while at CraftSteak or better yet, while in Vegas we gorged ourselves!  This was just the first night, the first meal!

No, Vegas isn’t paying me to write all these wonderful food stories, although that would be nice.  We just had such a wonderful time, we thought we should share it with everyone and encourage them to take a trip and go!

So you say, what else did we eat?  It may be easier to say what didn’t we eat?  Vegas is so large, so vast that we barely even skimmed the surface of what is available to dine on there.  We had many more fantastic eats while we were there.  I had the best burger of my life at The Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay.  It was topped with all my favorite fixings and they even served homemade mayo!  They have a cute little “dessert” burger, that’s a must try.  We also ate at Emeril’s Fishhouse where the food once again, we had no complaints about!  Emeril’s embodies the tastes and flavors that everybody loves and kicks it up a notch by adding unbelievable flavors and pristine service!   Our last stop was at STRIPSTEAK owned by Michael Mina.  We ordered our drinks and an appetizer to try, when out came these complimentary French fries.  These weren’t just any French fries, they were a trio of duck fat fries and each had its own special spices and sauces to go with.  Next out was some complimentary potato bread and our Duck leg with poached egg.  It was so delectable we ate every morsel!  The rest of our meal was equally as marvelous as all the other meals and presented just as beautifully.

All in all, we had a fabulous time in Vegas.  We loved trying all the different foods and tasting new flavors!  If you weren’t hungry before reading this and you are now, then my job here is done.  Please get out there and try something new.  It’s exciting! If you’ve never been to Vegas and you love food, you should make it a point to go!

Meals made easy

Finding it hard to get good, healthy meals on the table?  Well....here's an idea.  When you have time, start making extra meals and freezing them.  Then, when you're too tired to cook you can just thaw out a home cooked meal and not feel guilty!
